Common English Mistakes: Simple Errors and Easy Corrections
Learning English is exciting, but many beginners repeat the same simple mistakes. The good news is that these errors are easy to correct once you understand why they happen. This guide will show you the most common English mistakes and the correct forms, so you can speak and write more confidently.
1. “I am agree” vs. “I agree”
❌ I am agree
✔️ I agree
“Agree” is a normal verb, so it does not need am before it.
Use I agree to express your opinion.

2. “He go” vs. “He goes”
❌ He go to school every day.
✔️ He goes to school every day.
In the present simple tense, always add -s for he, she, it.
3. Confusing “There,” “Their,” and “They’re”
❌ There house is big.
✔️ Their house is big.
There → a place
Their → shows ownership
They’re → means “they are”
4. Using “Am” Without a Subject
❌ Am coming.
✔️ I am coming.
English sentences always need a subject before the verb.
5. “I have 25 years” vs. “I am 25 years old”
❌ I have 25 years.
✔️ I am 25 years old.
In English, we use am/is/are to talk about age, not have.
6. Forgetting Plurals
❌ I have two pen.
✔️ I have two pens.
Most plural nouns end in -s.
(Example: book → books, car → cars)
7. Wrong Preposition: “Married with” vs. “Married to”
❌ She is married with John.
✔️ She is married to John.
Use married to when talking about a partner.
8. “More better” vs. “Better”
❌ This one is more better.
✔️ This one is better.
“Better” already means “more good,” so “more better” is incorrect.
9. “I didn’t went” vs. “I didn’t go”
❌ I didn’t went there.
✔️ I didn’t go there.
After didn’t, always use the base form of the verb (go, see, eat, etc.).
10. “Can able to” vs. “Can”
❌ I can able to speak English.
✔️ I can speak English.
“Can” already shows ability, so “able to” is not needed.
